Found in Napo province of Ecuador at elevations around 1800 meters as a medium to almost large sized, cold growing terrestrial with up to 5, rosulate, ovate-elliptic, shortly acuminate, acute below into the 7.8" [18 cm] long, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the fall on an erect, stout, peduncle glabrous, to 20.4" [51 cm] long, provided with 3, 2 non-foliaceous, lowest leafy sheaths, rachis to 5.6" [14 cm] long, rather densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate, obtuse, as long as the ovary floral bracts
"This species resembles Pseudocentrum minus from Jamaica and Hispanola in the length of the sepaline spur, however the 2 species can be easily distinguished, based on ovary surface, hirsute in P minus and the shape of the lateral lip lobes which are triangular in P minus. Additionally the middle lobe of the lip in P magnicalcar is terminated by a sac like structure which is half as long as the rest of the mid lobe. The digitate lobule of the sac is prominently shorter than the sac itself. The sac like extention of mid lobe of the lip is approximately 5 to 6 times shorter than the rest of the mid lobe and the apical lobule is longer than the sac. The relatively massive sepaline spur of P magnicalcar somewhat resembles Pseudocentrum kayi although the spur of the latter is much larger and pendent." Szlachetko & Kolanowska
