Found in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru in cloud forests as a medium to just large sized, cold growing terrestrial with a stout, erect stem carrying, 3 to 4 basal, herbaceous, ovate-lanceolate, acute, tapering below into the elongate, thin, striate, conduplicate sheathed base leaves that blooms on an erect, 2' [60 cm] long, cylindric, glabrous, densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acute to subacuminate, as long or longer than the ovaries floral bracts
