Found in the north Island of New Zealand in montane high elevations subalpine scrub as a mini-miniature sized cold growing terrestrial with a rosette of 3, rarely 2 or 4, elliptic, bluntly acute, blueish green leaves that blooms in the late spring and early summer on an erect. 1.8 to 2" [4.5 to 5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence.
