Common Name The Large Pterostylis - In Australia The Large Rustyhood

Flower Size 3/4" [2 cm]

Found in central and western Victoria at elevations of 100 to 350 meters in Box Ironbark forests, dry woodlands and Mallee country as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with round tubers giving rise to an erect stem carrying a basall rosette of brown, lanceolate, acute, basally clasping leaves and blooms in the spring on a terminal, erect, 14" [35 cm] long, 1 to 8, successively flowered inflorescence with several clasping, acute sheaths spread out along the stem. This species has a sensitive lip and snaps back towards the sepals when touched.
