Common Name The Alpine Pterostylis - In Australia Mountain Greenhood Orchid

Flower Size 1 to 1.2" [2.5 to 3 cm]

This small sized, cold growing terrestrial species is found in New South Wales and Victoria, Australia at elevationms of 250 to 900 meters where it favours moist grassy areas, particularly in montane to subalpine areas - growing on slopes or near creeks with a basal rosette of rich green, fleshy leaves and blooms in the late winter and spring in situ on an erect, 12" [30 cm] tall, rough, single flowered inflorescence and is thought to be pollinated male insects of the fungus gnat and mosquito family.
