Found in Zaire, Zambia, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina as a medium to large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with subterranean ovoid-oblong pseudobulbs envelopd by imbiricating sheaths and carrying linear-lanceolate, acuminate, plicate, gradually narrowing below into the pseudo-petiolate base leaves that blooms in the summer on an erect, 12 to 24" [30 to 60 cm] long, 5 to 10 flowered inflorescence
