Found in Victoria Australia at elevations of 200 to 450 meters in the Mallee and Wimmera regions with isolated occurrences in northern Plains, Goldfields and the Grampians where it occurs in open mallee scrublands and certain woodlands as a small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial orchid with a basal rosette of 5 to 8 leaves that blooms in the spring on an erect, 12" [30 cm] long inflorescence with 2 to 6 flowers
