Common Name Degranville Sarcoglottis [French Collector of the Type current]

Found in French Guiana in rainforests at 5 to 10 meters as a large sized, hot growing terrestrial with a basal rosette of 3 to 5, erect, elliptic to obovate-lanceolate, acute, adaxial side dark green or glacousa green marked with rather narrow and inconspicuous whitish green veins, abaxially somewhat satiny and lighter, channeled below into the pseudopetiolate base leaves that blooms in the summer and the winter on an erect, terminal, peduncle pale green to greenish brown, glabrous below gradually pubescent in the upper aprt, 27.6 to 31.3" [69 to 77.5 cm] long, provided with 6 to 9, erect, glabrous,lanceoalte, acuminate, shorter to as long as the internodes, rachis 2.6 to 6" [6.5 to 15 cm] long, loosely 4 to 6, flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acute to acuminate, pubescent in the basal half, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying resupinate flowers with with the tepals white to slightly greenish yellow and the lip white to greenish yellow veined with darker green. The tepals yellow with age.
Clearly related to !Sarcoglottis acaulis but S granvillei is separtated by the elliptical to obovate leaf blades versus elliptical to oval, with nectariferous glands, densely pubescent beneath, versus barely pubescent on the underside, the presence of 2 clearly visible and perennial papillose tufts at the apex of the disc versus very discrete and fleeting tufts and a rounded subrhombic epichile, a characteristic not shared by any other Guyanese taxon, versus transversely elliptical, often apiculate, shorter and less wide and a very doifferent callusconsiting of a thickened and wide vein in the middle part at the apex of the disc. then split into 2 parellel thickened veins versus two thickened, v shaped veins."
