Common Name The Over-Looked Satyrium

Found in Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Swaziland and Cape, Natal, Orange free State and Transvaal South Africa in montane grassland and bracken scrub at elevations of 1750 to 3000 meters as a small to large sized, warm to cold growing terrestrial with ellipsoid to fusiform-ellipsoid, tomentose tubers giving rise to a sterile stem carrying 2-5, lanceolate, oblong-lanceolate or elliptic, acute, foliage leaves on a separate sterile shoot and a flowering stem with sheathing leaves along the stem that blooms in the late spring and summer on an erect, cylindrical, tall and candle-like, densely many-flowered, racemose inflorescence with many large, reflexed, pinkish bracts and non-resupinate, sweet-soapy fragrant flowers.
