Found in Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe in seasonally wet, boggy grasslands at elevations of 1500 to 1800 meters as a medium to large sized, cool growing terrestrial with ovoid to ellipsoid, woolly tubers giving rise to a sterile stem carrying 3 to 4, laowermost 1 to 2, loosely sheathing, the upper most lanceolate to oblanceolate leaves and a fertile stem carrying 6 to 10, loosely sheathing leaves that blooms in the later summer on a terminal, erect, 6 to 12" [15 to 30 cm] long, narrowly cylindrical, fairly laxly many flowered inflorescence .
