Common Name Dodson's Scaphosepalum [American Botanist in Ecuador curretn]

Flower Size .2" [5mm]

Found in northern Ecuador on the western slope in cloud forests at elevations around 1200 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm growing epiphyte with erect, slender ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apcial, erect, coriaceous, spathulate, elliptical, obtuse, cuneate below intothe blackish petilate base leaf that blooms in the summer on slender, smooth, horizontal to descending, subcongested, successively several flowered inflorescence arising from high on the ramicaul.

"The very small habit with spathulate leaves is distinctive. The descending peduncle is smooth, but except for their small size, the flowers are most similar to S breve or a short tailed form of Scaphosepalum swertiifolium. The lip is distinguished by the prominent pair of tall lamellae on the middle third." Luer 1988
