"This species was first treated as a geographical version of S odontochilum in Icones Pleurothallidinarum Vol V Systematics of Dresslerella and Scaphosepalum Luer 1988 pg 79. Although closely allied the collection from the lowlands of southeastern Ecuador differs significantly form S odontochilum from higher elevations of Colombia. The flowers are only half the size. The thick, cushion-like dorsal sepals recurves to expose the ovoid cushions of the convex, lateral sepals that are also with recurved apiculate apices. The entrance into the interior of the flower is consequntially constricted." Luer 1998
