Common Name Hirtz's Scaphyglottis [German Engineer, Orchid Enthusiast and Orchid Collector in Ecuador current]

Flower Size .48" [1.2 cm]

Found in Zamora Chinchipe and Napo province Ecuador at elevations around 1500 to 2500 meters as a miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with a very short rhizome gioving rise t onumerous, slender, superposed when mature stems, each stem member enveloped basally by 3 to 5 distichoius, close, brownish sheaths and carrying subopposite, in pairs at the apex of the stem members, basally clasping, oblong-ovate, acute leaves that blooms in the late winter and spring on axillary, very short, successively single, few flowered inflorescence arising through several, distichous, imbricate bracts and carrying pink flowers

Similar to S prolifera but S hirtzii has pink flowers with a 3 lobed lip and a pandurate apical lobe.
