Found in Norte de Santander and Meta department of Colombia at elevations around 400 meters as a large sized, hot growing epiphyte with an abbreviated rhizome giving rise to fusiform tall pseudobulbs cvarrying 2, apical, oblong, ligulate, obtuse, coriaceous leaves that blooms in the winter on an erect, terminal, peduncle enveloped by several sheaths, 48 to 51" [120 to 130 cm] long, to 60" [150 cm] long overall, rachis 8 to 10" [20 to 30 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with elongate to 2" [5 cm] long,linear-lanceolate, subulate, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying purple brown flowers with a pinkish red lip.
