Common Name Irwin's Scuticaria [American Orchid Collector in Brazil Early 1900's]

Flower Size 2.4" [6 cm]

This small to medium sized, erect, cool to cold growing lithophytic species from Minias Gerais Brazil and Guyana? at elevations around 1750 to 1955 meters with a creeping rhizome with closely spaced, erect, terete, short psuedobulbs enveloped basally by loose tubular, imbricating sheaths carrying a single, erect, terete, canaliculate, acute leaf that become rugose with age and has a lateral, erect, to 10" [to 25 cm], long, single flowered inflorescence occuring in the summer in Brazil. It differs from all other Scuticaria by it's erect growth habit on rocks and its erect inflorescence.
