Common Name Steele's Scuticaria [English Orchid Enthusiast 1800's]

Flower Size 2.4" [6 cm]

Found in French Guiana, Surinam, Guyana, northern Brazil, Venezuela and Colombia in seasonally dry, lowland evergreen rainforests at elevations around 300 to 850 meters as a large sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with clustered, inconspicuous, reflexed to pendant, cylindrical pseudofbulbs enveloped basally by a few sheaths and carrying a single, apical, pendant, fleshy, lightly flexuous, terete, narrowly and deeply channeled, acute, very long leaves that blooms in the summer on a basal, robust, short to 1.6" [4 cm] long, 1 to 3 flowered, glabrous inflorescnece enveloped basally by a few glabrous, membraneous bracts with ovate, concave, acute coriaceous floral bracts and carrying fragrant flowers
