Found in Colombia without locational data as a medium sized terrestrial with a rigid, unbranched, sparsely leafy stem and carrying plicate, lanceolate-ovate, narrowly acute, sessile to the imbricating sheaths leaves that blooms on lateral, 2.4 to 3" [6 to 7.5 cm] long, loosely 8 to 10 flowered inflorescence with narrowly triangular, acute, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying secund, globose, glabrous, purple flowers with a whitish lip.

"Rchb.f used the name S gracilis for an herbarium sheet that only had the name appleied. He never validated it.Szlatchetko & Kolanowska validate the species in 2014. Szlatchetko & Kolanowska 2023.
