Found only in Peru in very wet montane forests at elevations of 2800 to 2900 meters as a giant sized, cold growing terrestrial is the world's tallest orchid at up to 44' [1320 cm] with a thick, erect, fibrous woody stem that is leafy towards the apex with elliptic, acute-acuminate, stiffly coriaceous, conspicuously ribbed, dark green leaves that blooms in the summer on 3 to 4, axillary, below the stem apex, stout, 8 to 12" [20 to 30 cm] long, 8 to 10 flowered inflorescence
