Common Name The White Sobralia

Flower Size 1" [2.5 cm]

Found in Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia in dense wet montane forests and open dry forests at elevations of 700 to 1800 meters as a large sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte on tree trunks or as a terrestrial with wiry, clustered stems enveloped by elongate, tubular sheaths and that are leafy only at the apex with 2 to 4, lanceolate, plicate, subpetiolate, long-acuminate leaves that blooms on a terminal, subsessile inflorescence that with age forms a cone-like strobilus with ovate-lanceolate, acute floral bracts and carries 1 to 2 at a time, successive, short-lived flowers that occurs sporadically throughout the year.

Separated from others in the genus by having white flowers, small stature, toothed keels, and an inflorescence that forms a pine-cone like strobilus with time.
