Found in Costa Rica in premontane wet forests on steep slopes at elevations of 1100 to 1150 meters as a giant sized, cool growing terresrial with strongly marked with dark purple spots, erect stems carrying ovate, acumiante leaves that blooms in the winter and early spring on an erect, 2.4 to 2.8" [6 to 7 cm] long, from a .4" [1 cm] wide cone, with a lateral leaflet, successively single, few flowered inflorescence.

"The species is similar to S macrantha but S lentignosa has dark purple spotted stems, much broader leaves, flowers lasts a single day vs 2 to 3 days with S macrantha, and the lip is proportionally smaller with the throat yelowish white to ivory rather than clear white." Pupulin 2015
