Found in Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Matto Grossa State, Brazil at elevations of 100 to 300 meters as a medium sized, hot growing epiphyte or often terrestrial in tropical wet forests at riversides and near waterfalls with cane-like, apically compressed stems enveloped by acuminate sheaths and carrying elliptic-oblong to elliptic-ovate, acute or abruptly acuminate, plicate, sessile, wide, smooth, lustrous bright green leaves and blooms in the late winter through spring arising through a short, deep, cone-like bract, with a few smaller bracts within, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with 1 to 3, fleshy, short-lived, fragrant flowers.
