Found in Ontario, Québec and Nova Scotia provinces of Canada, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana and Michigan in wet, short-statured grasslands and wetlands including fens, bogs, mossy (often Sphagnum) and lichen-covered seeps, and wet roadsides as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with fasciculate, fleshy, slender roots giving rise to 1 to 4, basal, erect, present at blooming, withering shortly thereafter, linear-lanceolate to slightly lanceolate, bluntly acuminate, tapered and decurrent below into the base leaves that blooms in the late summer and early fall on an erect, peduncle to [46 cm] long, glabrous, occasionally provided with 1 to 2, small, leafy cauline bracts, then quickly reducing upwards to adpressed, clasping, lanceolate, acute sheathing bracts, rachis 1.6 to 2.8" [4 to 7 cm] long, a single row in a loose to slightly tightly coiled spiral, moderately to densely pubescent, to 18 flowered inflorescence with densely pubescent, narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, a bit longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying slightly florally fragrant, resupinate, campanulate, slightly to moderately nodding flowers

"Spiranthes arcisepala is most similar to Spiranthes cernua and Spiranthes ochroleuca. It can bé distinguished from S. cernua by its more open spiraled inflorescence, smaller flowers, and rounded labellum apex. It can be distinguished from S. ochroleuca by its white colored labellum, and can be dis- tinguished from both S. cernua and S. ochroleuca by its downward arching lateral sepals." M.C.Pace 2017
