Common Name Shuttleworth's Stanhopea [English Orchid collector 1800's]
Flower Size 2.8 to 3.4" [7 to 9 cm]
Found in the state of Tolima, Colombia at elevations around 1000 meters in light forests as a medium szied, warm growing epiphyte with ovate, strongly ribbed and furrowed with age pseudsobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, plicate, coarse, leathery, lanceolate, plicate, acute , gradually narrowing below into the channelled, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer on a basal, pendent, to 6" [to 15 cm] long, loosely 5 to 10 flowered inflorescence with large, spread, broadly triangualr, acute floral bracts and carrying fragrant flowers..
