Common Name The Short Petal Satyrium

Found in Ethiopia and Yemen in grasslands among shrubs on slopes at elevations of 2000 to 3200 meters as a small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with a sterile stem carrying, 2 to 5, the upper 1 to 2, narrowly oblong to oblanceolate to lanceolate leaves, the slender to robust fertile stem carrying below, more or less sheathing, the 4 to 19 above, elliptic to lanceolate leaves that blooms in the summer on a terminal, erect, 1.6 to 6" [4.5 to 15 cm] long, narrowly cylindrical, densely many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate floral bracts .
