Common Name The Sun-Loving Stelis

Found in Risaralda and Valle de Cauca departments of Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam, Rio de Janiero, Minas GeraisSanta Catarina states of Brazil, Peru and Bolivia in low to high elevation, wet montane foersts at elevations of 70 to 1800 meters as a miniature sized, hot to cool growing, caespitose-ascending epiphyte with robust ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 scarious, tight sheaths and carrying a single apical, erect, subcoriaceous, linear-lanceolate, gradually narrows below into the conduplicate, sulcate petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter and spring through an annulus with an erect, to 4 1/5" [11 cm] long, many [30] flowered inflorescence with tight, tubular, shorter to as long as the ovary floral bracts.
Characterized by a miniature sized, with narrowly linear leaves and a many flowered raceme about as long carrying tiny flowers. The sepals are obtuse and less than .08" [2 mm] long. The p[etals are subcircular and single-veined. The lip is type B with a prominent, acute, triangular apiculum as found in D hymenantha." Luer 2009
