Common Name The Strong Lashes Stelis [refers to the cilia on the petals and sepals]

Found in Antioquia, Risaralda and Santander departments of Colombia, Pichincha, Sucumbios, Imbabura, Napo and Tugurahua provinces of Ecuador, Peru and northwestern Venezuela at elevations around 1200 to 3000 meters as a miniature sized, cool to cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3, tubular, acute to acuminate sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, thickly coriaceous, widely oblanceolate to elliptic-obloanceolate, acute and minutely tridenticulate, narrowly attenuate-cuneate below into the elongate, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on an erect, arising through a spathe from an annulus below the paex of the ramicaul, subdensely, peduncle .8" [2 cm] long, rachis 1.2 to 2.4" [3 to 6 cm] long, racemose, mostly simultaneously, several flowered, inflorescence with shorter to as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying flowers with cream to light green sepals, green to purple petals and a green to purple lip.
"The habit with the raceme exceedingthe leaf is not remarkable but the sepals are covered by a very fine, long, whote pubescence, some hairs being .04" [1 mm] long. The petalsa are three veined and the lip between Type "B" and "C" is shallowly concave with anobtuse apex and a thick trnasverse bar overlain by an elongated glenion. The depth of the dorsum is finely puberulent as it continues down the back of the blade of the lip." Luer 2009
