Common Name The Sharply Bent Lip Stelis

Found in Cauca department of Colombia and Morona-Santiago and Zamora-Chinchipe provinces of Ecuador in wet montane forests at elevations around 2300 meters as a small sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, semi-coriaceous, elliptic-oblong, obtuse to subacute, narrowing below into the canaliculate, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall on a much longer than the leaf, 7" [17.5 cm] long, densely many flowered almost to the base inflorescence with infundibular-cucullate, almost as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying brownish flowers.

"Distinguished by the narrowly oblong leaves and a congested raceme of brownish flowers. The lateral sepals are larger than the dorsal sepal and they spread 180 degrees opposite each other. The margins of the petals are thin without marginal thickening. The lip is shield-shaped with the dorsum deflexed beneath the column. The stigmatic lobes of the column overlie the petals." Luer 2009
