Common Name The Stelis Glossula Like Stelis

Found in Valle de Cauca department of Colombia and Imbabura province of Ecuador at elevaions around 1350 to 2200 meters as a miniature sized, cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with erect, slender ramicauls enveloped by a close tubular sheath below the middle and 1 to 2 others above the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, acute to subacute, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on an erect, arising through a spathe from a node below the apex of the ramicaul, strict, 4.8" [12 cm] long including the .6 to .8" [1.5 to 2 cm] long the peduncle, mostly simultaneously many flowered inflorescence with tubular, obtuse, as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying imbricating, two ranked, purple flowers.
"Closey related to S glossula but distinguished by a slender habit with narrowly elliptical leaves, often with 2 simultaneous racemes of small flowers exceeding them. The sepals are more or less convex with the laterals held together as a synsepal. The petals are transversely ovate and the lip is subquadrate, shallowly concave anteriorly with the apex broadly obtuse. A small glenion is present on the base and a small, rounded callus is present on the dorsum." Luer 2007
