Common Name The Large Bracted Stelis

Flower Size .12" [3 mm]

Found in Pataza, Loja and Zamora-Chinchipe provinces of Ecuador and Cusco department of Peru at elevations around 2300 to 2400 meters as a small sized, cold growing , densely caespitose epiphyte with erect, slender ramicauls enveloped by 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical to oblong elliptic, obtuse to rounded, broadly cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer and fall on an erect, subdensely, secund, 5.4" [13.5 cm] long including the peduncle, mostly simultaneously many flowered inflorescence with conspicuous, spreading, rotundate-ovate, longer than the ovary floral bracts with an auriculate clasping base and carrying purple flowers.

"Similar to S disticha but S grandibracteata differs in the smaller, non-imbricating floral bracts.
