Common Name The Webfoot Stelis [refers to the flowers shape]

Found in Pastaza, Napo, Tungurhua, Morona-SAntiago, Loja and Zamora Chinchipe provinces of Ecuador and Peru at elevations of 700 to 2400 meters as a small sized, warm to cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with erect ramicauls partially enveloped by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, oblong-ligulate, subobtuse, attenuate below intothe petiolate base leaf that blooms on an erect, occasionally arcuate, arising through a spathe from an annulus below the apex of the ramicaul, peduncle .8 to 1.6" [2 to 4 cm] long, rachis 3.2 to 10.4" [8 to 26 cm] long, secund simultaneously many flowered inflorescence with oblique, acute, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying purple flowers with the sepals glabrous and shiny purple externally, olive green to red-purple within.
"Vegetatively similar to many in the genus, but florally it is distinguished by nutant flowers all facing in one direction and overlapping in 2 ranks. The deep connation between the lateral sepals amd the dorsal sepal and the shallow connation betwen the lateral sepals below the central apparatus into a flat, three lobed, fan-shaped flower is distinctive."
