Common Name The Junin Stelis [A department of Peru]

Found in Ecuador, Junin department of Peru and La Paz department of Bolivia at elevations around 1900 to 2850 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with crowded erect ramicauls enveloped by 3 tubular, imbricate, evanescent sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, subcoriaceous, oblong to elliptic oblong, obtuse and tridenticulate apically, gradually narrows below into the petilolate base lef that blooms late summer and early fall on 1 to 2, much longer than the leaf, 4.8 to 5.6" [12 to 14 cm] long including the 1.2" [3 cm] long peduncle, arched, distichous, secund, many flowered inflorescence arising through an acute spathe and has navicular-cucullate, retuse at the base, acute floral bracts.

"This uncommon but widely distributed species is the only known member of Stelis sect. Nexipous in Bolivia. It is characterized by a large habit with the large-flowered raceme exceeding an elliptical, obtuse leaf. The sepals are ovate and acute with the laterals barely connate at the base, and more or less antrorse. The central apparatus is proportionately small with transversely oblong petals and a lip that is longer than broad with an acute, triangular apex." Luer & Vasquez 2018
