Found in Boca del Toros province of Panama without elevational data as a mini-miniature sized, caespitose epiphyte with erect, slender ramicauls enveloped by a tubular sheath and another at the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, broadly elliptical, obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall on a suberect, elongating, flexuous, lax, to 6.4" [to 16 cm] long including the .8 to 1.2" [2 to 3 cm] long peduncle, successively single, many flowered inflorescence from an annulus below the apex of the ramicaul with oblique, acute, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying dark red gaping flowers.
Similar to S embreei but the lateral sepals are semi-connate into a shallowly concave, transverse synsepal with diverging obtuse apices instead of completely connate into a concave, broadly ovoid synsepal as in S embreei.
