Found in Japan, Taiwan and Fujian and Hunan provinces of China along gullies in dense forests in deep shade at elevations around 1800 meters as a miniature sized, cold growing terrestrial with a small tuber giving rise to a erect, puberulent, cylindric subterranean portion of the stem carrying 1 to 2, small apical scales and the above ground portion is slender, angled and has a short cataphyl at the base and carrying a triangular-ovate, 3 veined, acuminate apically leaf midway up the stem that blooms in the later summer on a 1 t o3flowered inflroescence with pale green slightly smaller that he leaf floral bract.
