Found in Haiti and the Dominican Republic in lower montane forests at elevations around 300 to 1500 meters as a large sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with oblong, green, succulent, truncate pseudobulbs carrying 2 to 3, elliptical, acuminate, conduplicate below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring on a few erect, 10 t o12" [25 to 30 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with 5 to 7, elliptic,as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying yellow with red brown flowers.
Similar to S barringtoniae but the new species differs in the longer than the pseudobulb inflorescence [vs shorter than the pseudobulb], floral bracts terminal, elliptic-acuminate [vs terminal, globose and acute], the apice of the elliptical dorsal sepal is acuminate [vs lanceolate with an acute apex], the lateral sepals are obliquely lanceolate and acute [vs obliquely lanceolate-acute], the petals are elliptical-acuminate [vs elliptical-acute], the flowers are greenish yellow with red brown [vs green with brown], The lip is orange and fimbriate but not at the apex [vs white, fimbraite on all the margin] and the apical lobe of the lip is triangular [vs obovate].
