Found in New Guinea at elevations around 1300 meters as a medium sized, cool growing epiphyte without leaves that blooms in the late winter and early spring on a densely muricate-hispid, spiralling, , 6" [15 cm] long, several flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acuminate floral bracts.

Schlechter stated that the flowers are golden yellow. This species, T latipetalum, T quaquaversum and T robustum are unique in the genus by the spiralling inflorescence
