Found in Imbabura and Pichincha provinces of Ecuador at elevations of 2100 to 2500 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with a short stem enveloped completely by distichous, imbricate sheaths carrying narrowly obovate, obtuse, apiculate, narrowing below into the base leaves that blooms in the late spring, late summer and late fall on a terminal or near the apex in the leaf axils, erect, peduncle to 5.2" [13 cm] long, winged, to 8" [20 cm] long overall, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with ovae, carinate beneath, shorter than the pedicel, boat-shaped floral bracts
