Found in Tayacaja department of Peru in deep sphagnum banks cold wet cloud forests at elevations of 3000 to 3300 meters as an erect, small to giant sized, cold growing terrestrial with an elongate to 3'4" [1 meter] long, rarely branching stem enveloped almost completely by imbricate leaf sheaths and carrying lanceolate, acute, recurved, cilolate margined, basally clasping leaves that blooms in the fall through early winter on one to several, terminal, flexous, wiry, to 7.2" [15 to 18 cm] long, successively 6 to 10 flowered inflorescence with several, distant lepanthiform sheaths and subsimilar floral bracts and carrying cupped flowers.
