Found in India, western Himalayas, Assam, Bangladesh, China, eastern Himalayas, Myanmar, Thailand and Laos at elevations around 720 meters as a medium sized, warm growing terrestrial

"Similar to Tropidia curculigoides but the keels in the lip hypochile are obliquely angled [versus parellel] to the upper margin. Similar to Tropidia pedunculata differs in the same character as previous and the inflorescence are never proliferated." Ormerod 2017

For many years this taxon has been put as a synonym of T pedunculata but all references refering its occuring in India, western Himalayas, Assam, Bangladesh, China, eastern Himalayas, Myanmar, Thailand and Laos are actually T maxwellii.
