"This species, like several other Amazonian species, has an apical lobe adorned with retrorse trichomes or transverse crests. The difference between the types of V. cristagalli and V. cristato-callosa is mostly in the size of the flowers and lip, but they seem to represent the same species." Soto Arenas & Cribb 2010
