Common Name The Rock Growing Veyretia

Flower Size 1/2" [1.25 cm]

Found in French Guiana? and Minas Gerais state of Brazil as a small sized, terrestrial or lithophyte in swamps and small marshes with rocks below with a few thick roots giving rise in the late winter and early spring to an erect stem without no leaves, that are not present at blooming, peduncle 12 to 16" [30 to 40 cm] long, enveloped by 5 to 8 pubescent, tubular, provided with acute close fitting sheathing bracts rachis 2.4 to 3" [6 to 7.5 cm] long, several flowered inflorescence with linear-lanceolate, long-acuminate, sparsely and longly pubescent, slightly shorter than the ovary floral bracts.

Schlechter stated that this species has an affinity to Veyretia neuroptera but V rupicola occurs almost exclusively in swampy to marshy locations while V neuroptera occurss in xerophytic locations.
