Found in southwest Yunnan in forests on shaded rocky slopes at elevations around 2500 meters as a small sized, cold growing terrestrial with an ascending, somewhat stout stem carrying 5 to 6, cauline, not withering at blooming, abaxially green, adaxially dark green with a fine white mid vein and white lateral veins, ovate to elliptic, acute, obliquely cuneate into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on an erect, pilose, 3.2 to 4.8" [8 to 12 cm] long, subdensely several flowered inflorescence with 2 to 3 sterile bracts and lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, slightly shorter than the ovary, abaxially puberulent, acuminate apically floral bracts and carrying resupinate, small flowers
