Common Name Rutenberg's Angraecum [German Orchid Collector Madagascar 1800's]
Flower Size 2 1/5" [5.5 cm]
Found in Madagascar at elevations of 1000 to 2200 meters on tree trunks in humid evergreen forests and more often rocks in dense heavily shaded forests as a miniature sized, cool to cold growing lithophyte or epiphyte with a short stem carrying stiff, leathery, somewhat keeled, dull dusty green leaves and blooms in the spring through summer on a axillary, 1 1/5" [3 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence.
A rutenburgianum can be distinguished from its similar species A didieri and A elephantinum by A rutenburgianum's almost equitant, succulent leaves, a broadly elliptic lip and an anther that does not have a nose like projection
These 4 species, A Didieri, A elephanthinum and A rutenbergianum & A peyrotii are all quite similar but each one differs mostly in the leaves and or in the lip
