Found in Brunei, Borneo and Sumatra in tall forests at elevations of 50 to 800 meters as a small sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with clustered to short creeping rhizome giving rise to depressed conical pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, elliptic to ovate, acute to acuminate leaf that blooms on a basal, peduncle more or less erect becoming pendulous, 3.12" to 11.2" [7.8 to 28 cm] long, rachis more or less patent to pendulous, arching to slighly nodding at the base, spindle shaped, elongate, [22 to 50 cm] long overall, simultaneously few, 22 to 50 flowered inflorescence with triangular, acute, slightly shorter to as long as the ovary floral bracts.
"Shares a distinctly swollen rachis with B. spadiciflorum Tixier. This species, however, has narrower petals (index 2.6-2.7), and shorter stelidia." Vermeulen & Lamb 1996
