Common Name The Brain Bulbophyllum [refers to the top part of the lip has a warty, more or less brain-like texture; particularly the swelling near the tip on the abaxial side resembles a set of human brains]

Flower Size .24" [6 mm]

Found in Sabah Borneo in tall forests at elevations of 1300 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with a clustered rhizome giving rise to ovoid, .16 to .52" [.4 to 1.3 cm] between each pseudobulb carrying a single, apical, erect, elliptic to ovate to obovate, acute, petiolate base leaf that blooms on a basal, patent to pendulous, peduncle 1.52" to 4" [3.8 to 10 cm] long, provided with 5 scales, rachis pendulous, spindle shaped, glabrous, .4 to .72" [1 to 1.8 cm] long, congested, simultaneously many, 10 to 29 flowered inflorescence with much shorter than the ovary floral bracts.

"Most similar is B. polycyclum J.J. Verm. ; B. cerebellum differs in being much smaller (plant, including inflorescence about 6.4" [16 cm ]high, rachis .72" [1.8 cm long]), and in having a lip with two large lateral lobes (next to 2 small auricles at the very base) which in front abruptly end, so that the lip seems to be constricted at that level in lateral view. The top part of the lip has a warty, more or less brain-like texture (hence the name); particularly the swelling near the tip on the abaxial side resembles a set of human brains." Vermeulen 1996
