Common Name The Twisted Sepals Bulbophyllum
Flower Size 2 to 3" [5 to 7.5 cm] long
Found in Papua and New Guinea and Vanuatu in mist forests on moss-free trunks and branches at elevations of 50 to 1500 meters as miniature to small sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte with 1/4 to 1/2" [.625 to 1.25 cm] between each ovoid, obtuse, 4 angled pseudobulb carrying a single, apical, elliptic-ligulate, obtuse, basal narrow and glabrous leaf and is free-flowering if grown well with a slender, 2 1/4" to 4" [6 to 10 cm] long, erect to drooping, bracteate [3], green to purple, single flowered inflorescence with tubular, subulate-acuminate florla bracts and carrying a solitary flower that increases in size with time and is held above the leaves.
Cited as a synonym of Bulbophyllum falciferum but differs in the length and shape of the dorsal sepal and in the apex of the petals. The elongate, drooping, basally intertwined sepals are mostly the same in either species.
B streptopetalum which is smaller in all flower parts is now considered to be a synonym of B contortisepalum and as can be seen above there is a lot a variation in the dorsal sepal of the species
