Found in the Philippines on Mindanao Island on mossy branches at elevations around 1200 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with erect, clustered, globose pseudobulbs with cylindrical internodes and enveloped by dried cataphyls carrying a single, linear-lanceolate, glabrous, grooved, semi terete, fleshy, acute-acuminate, acute basally, glabrous, margin entire leaf that blooms in the late winter and early spring on an axillary, erect, peduncle accicular, .18" [4.5 mm] long, rachis to 2.4" [6 cm] long, to 6 flowered inflorescence with triangular, persistent, glabrous, green, as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying resupinate, non fragrant flowers.

"Bulbophyllum crassiusculum is most similar to Bulb. unguiculatum Rchb. f., but differs in the shape of the labellum which in Bulb. crassiusculum is sharply curved downwards with a recurving apex, the labellum of Bulb. unguiculatum is evenly curved; the edge of the labellum of Bulb. crassiusculum is minutely ciliate, whereas the edge of the labellum of Bulb. unguiculatum is entire; the petals of Bulb. crassiusculum are lanceolate, whereas the petals of Bulb. unguiculatum are obovate to elliptic."
