Common Name The Raised Dot Bulbophyllum
Flower Size 1.2" [3 cm]
Found in Thailand, penninsular Malaysia and Sumatra [Sulawesi?] as a small sized, cool to warm growing epiphyte with a creeping rhizome with 1" [2.5 cm] between each oblong-ovoid, apically narrowed, 2 longitudinal channeled, dull green pseudobulb carrying a single, apical erect, narrowly lanceolate, fleshy, tough, shiny green above, dull pale green below, petiolate leaf that blooms in the late fall and early winter on a basal as well as from the rhizome, erect, single flowered, terete, pale green spotted brown-red inflorescence carrying 3 bracts in the lower half.
Similar to B membranifolium but differs in the relatively thick textured leaves, sepals and petals, the leaves with shorter petioles, the lip base with strips of papillae, the fimbriate side lobe margins and the dark red flower. Mot similar to B vineaceum but B membranifolium has 2 strips of papillae at the lip base and a distinct curved tooth along each lower margin of the column.
