Found in Goiás, Minas Gerais and Paraná states of Brazil as a mini-miniature sized, hot growing epiphyte with pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, oblong, acute to obtuse leaf that blooms in the late summer and fall on a basal, peduncle 7.4 to 10.92" [18.5 to 27.3 cm] long, rachis [7.4 to 15 cm] long, erect to pendulous, 16 to 27 flowered inflorescence.
B dacruzii is cited as synonomous with this species but I have left them separate for now pending pers comm with M Campaci
Very close to B tripetalum but differs in the chestnut colored sepals, the purple lip with the lateral lobes yellow, the mid lobe orbicular and seemingly glabrous [microscopically hairy].
