Common Name Sander's Bulbophyllum [English Orchid Nurseryman 1800's]

Found in Cundinamarca department of Colombia, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco and Alagoas states of Brazil at elevations around 500 to 1380 meters as a warm to cool growing epiphyte with a repent, terete rhizome with .6 to .88" [1.5 to 2.2 cm] between each broadly ovoid pseudobulb and carriying a single, fleshy, elliptic-oblong, obtuse, sessile base leaf that blooms in the in the fall on an erect to ascending, slender, to 20" [50 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence with ligulate-lanceolate, acute floral bracts and carrying dark maroon with transverse stripes on the sepals and irregular dots on the petals.
There are 4 species with single leaves reported from Colombia having petals with short, ciliate, pilose or ciliolate margins, B sanderianum, B exaltatum, B popayanense and B meridense In B popayanense and P meridana the petals are 3 times shorter than the sepals. B exaltatum and B sanderianum have petals half as long as the sepals and are separated by the lip shape.
