A strange summer flowering, bifoliate plant with conic pseudobulbs carrying 2, apical, deciduous, lanceolate, acute, shortly petiolate leaves, blooming on a basal, to 16" [to 40 cm] long, pendant, lax, raceme with up to 10, foul smelling flowers that have very active flower movement.

This small sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte is from the eastern Himalayas, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Java and Sumatra in semi-deciduous and deciduous dry lowland forests and savana-like woodlands at elevations of sealevel to 1420 meters. This species has deciduous leaves and loses them as it is ready to bloom and needs a slight lessening of water but should not be allowed to dry out. It also does not like direct sunlight.
